PROGRAM
The workshop, planned as the last stage of the training course, is closely linked to the drafting of the Master’s Thesis. It essentially constitutes the introductory chapter that precedes the project development, the results of which will then be presented during the thesis discussion (the workshop is also accessible to participants external to the Master, signatories of the call for individual workshops, for which the thesis is not required).
Focused on a general redevelopment project of the Acropolis of Athens and its surroundings included within the perimeter of the UNESCO Buffer Zone, it constitutes a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to develop a project for the Acropolis of Athens which is the very origin, the semantic core, of the architectural and artistic culture of the western world. The requested interventions concern, with reference to the Acropolis: the arrangement (and accessibility) of the entire extrados enclosed in the perimeter walls of the Rocca, the redevelopment of the Old Acropolis Museum, the redesign of the Propylaea staircase, the incision and deep penetration of the so-called Persian Colmata and, finally, possible hermeneutic hypotheses for the arrangement of the Parthenon cell. With reference to the adjacencies, it will be possible to work on the ascension path of the Panathenaic from the Ancient Agora to the Propylaea, on a hypothesis of a “mirador” for the Areopagus Hill, on installations for shows and fashion events on the Pnyx Hill.
The workshop is sized for seven days including arrivals and departures and includes three and a half days of project development with final public review, in addition to a day dedicated to seminar contributions and various visits to the sites mentioned above and present in the perimeter of the Unesco Buffer Zone. Based on the availability of YSMA it will be possible to visit the construction site of the Parthenon and understand the techniques and methodologies of anastylosis used for the restoration. The workshop takes place at the conference room of the Archaeological School of Athens.
