PROGRAM

The Verona Workshop is centered on urban storytelling through museography and exhibition design, combining guided visits, site-specific analyses, and field comparisons, with a focus on two pivotal architects in the context of archaeology: Carlo Scarpa and Andrea Palladio.

The workshop will focus heavily on visits and detailed analysis of the Castelvecchio Museum, whose present layout reflects the stratification of multiple historical periods and the narrative approach of those who, during the past century, redesigned its spaces to respond to archaeological remains, the urban context, and the collection of artworks.

During a morning session with distinguished scholars, the workshop will explore how museographic architecture can effectively highlight and enhance historical or archaeological remains.

A visit to Vicenza’s historic center, featuring the major works of Andrea Palladio, broadens the workshop’s scope both geographically and historically, offering participants critical-comparative tools to engage with the complex museographic design process, which uses urban, archaeological, or artistic traces as a basis for constructing narrative and educational experiences.

This four-day workshop (including arrival and departure) combines intensive theoretical and cultural sessions with guided visits to Verona’s principal museographic sites, focusing on Castelvecchio, as well as a visit to Vicenza’s Basilica Palladiana and Teatro Olimpico, culminating in a study day to reflect on and analyze the topics explored during the visits.
