PROGRAM
The Brescia Workshop takes the form of guided visits and field research, exploring the interplay between archaeological heritage and contemporary architectural design, through an analytical path in the heart of Brescia’s UNESCO site and the surrounding Garda Lake landscape.
The initial phase of the workshop focuses on hands-on analysis of the Santa Giulia Complex and the Capitolium, outstanding museum sites where historical layers serve as design material.
The scientific discussion will proceed with a conference at the Brescia Architects’ Association, focusing on the idea of valorization as more than simple conservation—viewed instead as a creative and interpretative approach to the past, enabled by integrated design strategies.
Trips to the Vittoriale degli Italiani and the remarkable Grotte di Catullo archaeological site will broaden the exploration of the interplay between architecture, memory, and landscape.
Within this framework, the workshop seeks to equip participants with the analytical tools needed to navigate the complexities of historically rich environments, where architects are tasked with interpreting memory as an active resource for shaping the future of the territory.
This four-day workshop (including arrival and departure) is organized around intensive theoretical and cultural sessions. It comprises a conference day, guided visits to the Capitolium and Santa Giulia archaeological sites, and an excursion in the Lake Garda area, including educational visits to the Vittoriale degli Italiani and the Grotte di Catullo.
