PROGRAM

Organized in Berlin, with an application theme focused onMuseum Island, the famous museum acropolis affected in the last three decades by a series of major redevelopments and reconstructions of parts lost during World War II. There will be two project themes: the first, eminently museographic, consists of the design development of an exhibition to be set up inside the Neues Museum, restored by David Chipperfield between 1999 and 2009. In particular, the exhibit will find space in the large voids of the so-called “Greek Court” and the “Vestibule of the Great Staircase.” The subject of the exhibition will be a collection of original Egyptian artifacts from the Amarnian period.

The second theme concerns the creation of an exhibition pavilion contextual to the arrangement of the urban partition between the domed front of the Berliner Schloss, reconstructed by Franco Stella (2003-2020), and the lost Bauakademie by Friedrich Schinkel (1832-1836). Participants will be able to choose either project theme.

The workshop is sized over seven days including arrivals and departures, and includes, in addition to the three and a half days devoted to the project activity with final public review, a seminar day with outside speakers, views of the Island museums and other notable buildings in Berlin.

The goal of the workshop is a direct, in situ design confrontation with one of the most important museums in the world, Berlin’s Museum Island, operating within a strongly museographic and exhibitionist dimension.
